As many fans keep looking to free agency and the draft for the Eagles to improve, I have to ask myself if anyone can step up within the organization and make an impact? The Eagles have two very interesting prospects who will be trying to make strides in the offseason to impact the team. These players are King Dunlap and Jack Ikegwuonu.
Dunlap stands 6′ 8″ and weighs in at 310 pounds. With that size you would think he would be a dominant first round OT rather than a seventh round pick. However, Dunlap had some hard times in college and never blossomed the way that he could. The Eagles took a chance drafting him hoping they could turn his monster size into something valuable. He ended up spending the whole season on injured reserve and has been a disappointment up until now. With Tra Thomas out the door and it seem like John Runyan will have the same fate, offensive line coach Juan Castillo will be trying his hardest to mold Dunlap into a valuable player. He obviously has the natural size. If he can develop the footwork and technique to go with it, he could be a dominant force on the line.
Ikegwuonu is another drafted player the Eagles took a risk on. He was projected to be a first round pick until he suffered a knee injury. Despite the injury, the Eagles picked him up in the fourth round knowing full well he wouldn’t be able to have an impact last year. However, he has been rehabbing and working hard to get back on the field to show that he still has the first round talent he used to. With Lito Shepperd no longer on the roster, the Eagles could use a young cornerback to step up and show that he can play. Ikegwuonu is reportedly going to be participating in the upcoming team mini-camps and hopefully won’t have any setbacks with the knee.
