As we look forward to training camp next month, I try to think of some things the Eagles will really want to work on.
To me, I am not certain the Eagles know exactly who they want to put where on the offensive line. They obviously have some new talent they are mixing in with the talent they already have. I hope that the Eagles can decide whos going where quickly so that everyone can begin to learn how to work with one another. If players keep shifting around on the line, I don’t think it will be very beneficial. You need to know who is going to line up next to you every play and what tendencies they have. They have a lot of fire power on this line and I hope they can figure out how to use it to its maximum potential.
Another thing I hope they work on is spreading the ball out to all the weapons they have on their offense. When you look at the skill positions and the threats the Eagles have, it is downright scary. I don’t think this is the type of offense to feature one player at any position. Instead, they need to be able to get everyone a good amount of touches so that a lot of different players have the opportunity to make plays. This is important because if you can do this effectively, the defense can’t concentrate on one player and shut you down.
On defense the only thing concerning me is the secondary as there will be new starters stepping in. Ellis Hobbs and Quintin Demps need to shine early for this team so there are no questions as to whether or not they should be starters.
The Eagles have definitely built a talented squad that could do big things in 2009. Can’t wait to see these guys on the field in Lehigh as they get ready for the upcoming season.
