I came across someone with an interesting point today. They said that if none of the Giants wide receivers step up and prove themselves this year that they will be a one-dimensional football team.
This is a pretty true statement. You know that the Giants can run the football with Brandon Jacobs and really beat you up, but they don’t have that big target in Plaxico Burress anymore. They tried to draft his replacement in Hakeem Nicks but you can’t ask a kid to come in as a rookie and fill that number one spot the same way Burress did. Not just Nicks, but the Giants depth chart if filled with young receivers who are going to be asked to step up big this year.
The Giants are ready to make Eli Manning the highest paid player in the NFL, yet it’s still a big question as to whether or not he’s going to be able to get anything done through the air this year. Sure he can turn around and hand the ball off, but that’s not what you get paid the big bucks to do.
Giants training camp will be interesting as we watch the development of the young wide receivers. They were not able to land the big trade in the offseason so now they will work with what they have.
