For me, the most frustrating thing going on this offseason is the injuries on the offensive line. Losing Stewart Bradley and Cornelius Ingram for the year stings, but the current status of the offensive line is just devastating. There are new additions to this line and the players need this time to learn the others tendencies and vulnerabilities. With the lack of time these guys are playing, they are not getting the time needed to gel.
Jason Peters inked the big deal in the offseason and looked horrible in the first game against New England before exiting with an injury. He is supposed to be the anchor on the offensive line and a guy that Donovan can trust to protect his blindside. At this point, I don’t think that Donovan has the trust factor like he did with Tra Thomas. At Donovan’s age, he doesn’t want to have to dink and dunk like he used to do in the old days. He is ready to be that pocket passer who expects time to throw the ball.
Shawn Andrews is my biggest concern on the offensive line. After the whole ordeal that happened last offseason I was really hoping that Andrews would come in as a changed man and be good to go. Bringing in his brother Stacy was a move I thought the Eagles did partly for Shawn Andrews as much as it was to improve the team. However, there is still an ongoing situation with Shawn. He has said he will be ready to start week one. I do want to see him in the starting lineup but it wil be the first time he’s playing tackle in the NFL. I’m not doubting his abilities but he really needed to take as many reps as he could before it really counts.
Todd Herremans and Stacy Andrews need to get healthy but I am not as concerned by them. The anchors on the ends of the line are what concern me the most, especially with the talented pass rushers around the NFC East. We now have two very talented quarterbacks but I don’t want to see them get their heads ripped off.
