If you were on the site last week, you know that I wrote about all the things I was looking for during the game with the Colts. I’ve decided to follow up that post with a similar one for tonight’s match up with the Jaguars. So here it goes:
1. Michael Vick
This is a no brainer and probably the thing most fans are excited to see. The guy is electrifying when on the field and it should be great having that type of playmaker in an Eagles uniform. There are many things to watch for when he is in the game. Where does he line up? Who else is on the field at the same time? Is he just a decoy on any plays? Does it look like he’s just as fast as whe he left the league two years ago? Many questions and tonight we hope to get all the answers. Andy said he wasn’t afraid to show off Vick and some formations he’ll be used in but I can’t believe they’ll go and run every formation they’ve designed to use specifically for him.
2. Brian Westbrook
He’s baaaaccckkkk. I’m almost as excited to see Brain Westbrook on the field as I am to see Michael Vick on the field. After the knee and ankle surgeries, he is finally lining up against an opposing team again. I want to see how he runs and how he is able to cut. We should immediately be able to see if he’s the same Brian Westbrook or if the injuries have set him back.
Last week I had an item focusing on tight end coverage by the linebackers. This week I’m going to be real general and say that I am watching them as a whole. They have definitely been the least impressive aspect of the defense this preseason. I’m interested to see if Moise Fokou plays at all with the starters and if so, how much. I want to see Joe Mays all over the field knocking peoples heads off. A one on one match with him and MJD knocking heads would be interesting. As mentioned before, I also want to see them improve their pass coverage.
4. Offensive Explosiveness
I think the Eagles have been pretty flat on offense so far this season. Donovan’s touchdown to DeSean last week was nice, but if you hide that there hasn’t been much razzle dazzle. They have so many threats on this offense that they should be able to come at you all day. I don’t believe the Jaguars starters are going to play that much tonight while the Eagles starters will be playing 3 quarters. If this is the case, the offense should be putting up some serious points and yardage tonight.
5. Punt Returns
Jeremy Maclin has not been exactly stellar in the return game with fumbles in both games this preseason. DeSean Jackson is supposed to return at least one punt tonight but I don’t really want to see that. I’d rather him focus on being the best wide receiver he can be. Maclin needs to get it together and really come out and prove something tonight. Run one back JMac.
6. A Win
I know it’s the preseason and it doesn’t really ‘count’ but I’d like to see the team walk away with a win tonight. Winning a game is a much better feeling than losing a game, even in the preseason. The Eagles have been called Super Bowl contenders by many already this year so can we please make it look like it? I want a win tonight.
Tonight should be an exciting game with many story lines going along with it. Don’t forget that the Eagles will have to make their first round of cuts after this game as well.
What are you looking for from the Eagles in tonight’s game?
