In Sunday’s game we saw a lot of young players who were forced to step up into big roles due to injuries. Rookies LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin were asked to be starters in only their third regular season game in the NFL. Kevin Kolb was asked to lead the Eagles to a win so they could go into the bye week above the .500 mark. DeSean Jackson and Brent Celek were asked to contribute to the offense in a big way to take pressure off the rookies who had to start.
Every young player who was asked to do something big performed like they had been there for years. Let’s take a look at some of the young players stats from Sunday
24-34, 327 yards, 2 TDs, 1 rush TD
20 car, 84 yards, TD
6 rec, 149 yards, TD
8 rec, 104 yards, TD
4 rec, 33 yards
These young guys did a hell of a job and showed that Andy Reid and his draft team are doing something right. All of these guys are in their third year or below and are already making contributions to the team.
The bye week is going to give time for some of the injured players to heal up and get back on the field so we may see less action out of the group mentioned above. However, it makes you feel good to know that these guys can contribute immediately when asked to do so. The depth on this offense is amazing. I don’t see why the Eagles can’t have one of the top offensive units for many years to come.
