Let’s talk about the defense

I feel as though we’ve been spending a lot of time talking about the offense lately, so let’s take some time to talk about the Eagles defense. We’ve seen two different defense’s show up for the Eagles this year. In Week One and Week Three, we saw a dominating defense that forced turnovers and beat up the quarterback. However, Week Two showed us a completely different Eagles defense. They tucked their tail between their legs and let Drew Brees and the Saints offense do whatever they pleased. Here are some interesting statistics and breakdowns on the Eagles defense up to this point.
Defensive Statistics
Total Defense: 5th (262 yards per game)
Points Per Game: 24
Pass Defense: 3rd (156 yards per game)
Rush Defense: 15th (106 yards per game)
Team Interceptions: 6 (Akeem Jordan 2, Sheldon Brown 2, Asante Samuel 1, Joselio Hanson 1)
Team Sacks: 10
Top 5 Tacklers
1. Quintin Mikell – 21
2. Omar Gaither – 18
3. Akeem Jordan – 18
4. Trent Cole -15
5. Asante Samuel – 10
Top 3 Sack Leaders
1. Trent Cole – 2.5
2. Darren Howard – 2
3. Juqua Parker – 2
Week One
Total Yards: 169
Pass Yards: 83
Rush Yards: 86
Sacks: 5
Interceptions: 5
Fumbles Recovered: 2
Week Two
Total Yards: 421
Pass Yards: 288
Rush Yards: 133
Sacks: 2
Interceptions: 1
Fumbles Recovered: 0
Week Three
Total Yards: 196
Pass Yards: 97
Rush Yards: 99
Sacks: 3
Interceptions: 0
Fumbles Recovered: 1
That stats don’t lie about the Eagles two-faced defense. It is still to be determined what Eagles defense we will see beyond the Bye Week. I hope that we see a defense more like what we saw against Carolina and Kansas City.

This is a Defense that is doing very little to inspire ANY confidence. The D has been usually been a source of Pride, I hope they can get there again… SOON!
