It’s no secret that Brent Celek has been playing terrific football these first three games. The tight end spot has been questionable for a few years as the “LJ Smith Project” didn’t work out too well. We were able to see Celek play a lot down the stretch last year and it gave us hope as he stepped up to the plate and played very well. The Eagles drafted Cornelius Ingram this year to try to add depth at the position and got lucky being able to pick him up in the fifth round. However, Ingram went down with a knee injury and even more pressure was put on Celek. Apparently, the guy loves it. Here are his numbers the first three games:
G GS Rec Yds Avg TD
3 3 22 245 11.1 2
These numbers include consecutive 100-yard receiving games in which he had eight receptions a piece. Not only that but the guy has been a complete bull to bring to the ground this year. He’s not just running in the open field, he’s fighting for extra yards after contact.
Celek has been everything we could ask for and more so far this year, and I hope it continues throughout the season. Not only that, I hope he continues this level of play for the Eagles for many years to come.
