Philly Reider: Defensive Thoughts

The Eagles beat the Redskins…well, they won. On the bright side, they didn’t lose against the elite Raiders. Andy Reid finally ran a balanced offense against the Redskins with about half run and half passing plays. However, Donovan McNabb and crew generated a comparatively meager offense (aside from the two 60 yard plays from DeSean Jackson) against an even more meager ‘Skins.
When things can only get from bad to worse, the Eagles lost Brian Westbrook due to concussion for minimally a couple of weeks. Now they are without the Giant Killer for their upcoming game in the Land of the Giants. A sad loss indeed. Regardless of the Redskins loss, their defense had more heart than the Eagles, despite seeing the Skins seeing their fellow teammates roll off in body bags. Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth kept on truckin’…not on one play but every play until the end of the game. He ultimately got one sack by fighting through a double team of left guard Todd Herremans and center Jamaal Jackson and obtained four tackles.
Kind of reminds you of Reggie White – or maybe Brian Dawkins, doesn’t he? Where is B-Dawk nowadays? He is now a leader of a top-ranked Broncos defense alongside Champ Bailey. Meanwhile, the Eagles defense still craves a leader and clarifies their identity as a unit (again). Unfortunately, the touted Jeremiah Trotter simply isn’t that Man. He simply isn’t.
