Well it feels good to be on top. What an incredible game for the Eagles. They really needed to come out hot and get on the board early and that’s exactly what they did. Leonard Weaver busted a 40 yard touchdown run right off the bat, and the Eagles never looked back from there. Let’s take a look at some of the positives and negatives I saw from Sundays game.
Donovan McNabb – It all starts with the quarterback and Donovan played exactly the way he had to. His numbers weren’t real big but he was very efficient. He spread the ball around and was also able to stretch the field very well.
LeSean McCoy – With Brain Westbrook’s absence, McCoy needed to have a big game. He only got to see 11 rushes but did break off a 66 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to really put the icing on the cake. When he touches the ball, he has shown us that he can make a big play at any moment.
Receivers – Donovan spread the ball out and his receivers (including Brent Celek) made plays. The Eagles are extremely effective when they can work the ball around and did this on Sunday. Three different receivers scored on the day and they were finding openings in the Giants defense when they needed to.
Defense – These guys really came to play on Sunday. They got pressure on Eli Manning and forced him to make turnovers. This defensive unit has been playing really well and I hope that this trend continues.
Leonard Weaver – When the Eagles signed him, we said great they have a guy that can actually block now. Since when do the Eagles let their fullback run the ball eight times?? He got the team off on the right start with his 41 yard touchdown in the first quarter and was able to get more carries throughout the game. His contribution was a surprise but definitely a pleasant one.
Tight end coverage – Better, but not where it needs to be.
Run defense – It varied all day, but overall I thought it could have been better. Jacobs wasn’t amazing but I feel like he wasn’t struggling to pick up four yards or so each time he touched the ball.
I’m not going to list any more negatives as I’m very happy with the win. Beating the Giants in that type of fashion is exactly what the Eagles needed. It sets up a huge matchup with the Cowboys next week and I am very excited to see that game.
