In the Eagles match up with the Cowboys on Sunday, the Eagles were out of time outs and had to make a stand on defense in order to get the ball back into the hands of their offense. They failed to do so and the Cowboys came away with the win. Our upcoming opponent this week, the San Diego Chargers, found themselves in a similar scenario last weekend as well. However, they were given the ball with little time on the clock and asked to drive the ball down the field and score a touchdown. They were able to do so and got a hard fought win against the Giants.
San Diego’s win was good for us and bad for us all at the same time. It helped by adding another loss to the Giants record; however, it gives them a lot of momentum and confidence coming into Sunday’s match up. Traditionally, west coast teams struggle when they have to travel and play teams on the east coast, but the Chargers were able to come out of the Meadowlands with a win. Now, an east coast team is forced to travel out west and try to steal a victory back.
The Chargers showed everyone that they are a talented team that will show up and play for four quarters. Last Sunday’s game with Dallas was the only real time where the Eagles were close in a game in the fourth quarter. They didn’t have what it takes to pull out a victory like the Chargers did. I can see this game with the Chargers being a battle similar to the one the Birds just had with Dallas. The question is do they have what it takes to finish off a close game?
The Eagles can’t expect to blow out every team and win in this fashion. If they want to be a solid team, they have to show they can battle with a team for four quarters and pull out the tough wins, especially on the road.
