The Birds are eight games into the season and have eight more to go. They sit second in the NFC East with a 5-3 record and would make the playoffs if they were to start today. However, the second half of their schedule is much tougher than what they’ve been through so far.
We’re eight games into the season and I still don’t know what to think of this team. They’ve blown out some teams they were supposed to, but also failed to score a touchdown in Oakland which was another team they should have blown out. They made a statement against the Giants who we thought were a pretty good team (at the time), and followed it up with a big letdown loss to the Cowboys. If you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, this inconsistency has got to be killing you.
This team will go on the road for five out of its final eight games, including division showdowns on the road with the Giants and Cowboys. They also have to meet with the Bears and Falcons, two other inconsistent teams, but teams that can perform at a very high level. There is also the return of Brian Dawkins at the end of December which is sure to be a very emotional game. Throw in matchups with Washington, San Francisco, and this weeks matchup with San Diego and you round out the rest of the regular season, not a cake walk by any means.
So the Eagles are on pace for a 10-6 record but will have to work much harder in the second half of the season to go 5-3 then they did in the first half. This team has the talent to go 8-0 the rest of the way, but has horrible tendencies that will probably prevent them from doing so. All we can do is strap in and prepare for a wild ride. There are no givens with this football team, so we must patiently wait for the ending.
