With Pro Bowl voting currently taking place, you stop and think about what Eagles have a chance of making the team. In my opinion, no Eagle deserves to make the team more than Brent Celek.
Celek showed his emergence towards the end of last season, and we all had high hopes for him entering the 2009 season. When Cornelius Ingram went down in Training Camp, Celek knew even more was going to be asked of him. He has really delivered. With his big frame, he can block well, but his biggest threat is when he is running routes and catching passes.
If you break down some of the statistics, you can really see why he deserves to go. Here’s a look at where he ranks among other tight ends in the NFC.
Receptions: 40 (3rd)
Yards: 486 (1st)
Yards/Game: 60.8 (1st)
Touchdowns: 4 (5th)
The NFC East dominated the tight end position last year sending Jason Witten of the Cowboys and Chris Cooley of the Redskins. Celek’s competition is pretty fierce as Pro Bowl caliber tight ends such as Tony Gonzalez and Kellen Winslow have jumped over to the NFC this season. Despite this, Celek still has the best numbers out of the group. The only thing he doesn’t have is the popularity that the other tight ends do. We need to help Brent Celek reach the Pro Bowl because he truly deserves it. Use the link below to do your part!
