*This is just a short fill-in story if you didn’t see Celeks TD*
Whoever was watching the week 8 match up against Dallas, might have missed and important aspect of Celek’s 11 yard TD reception. Celek went up to the camera’s, put his hands on his hips, and struck the Captain Morgan pose. The pose resulted in a 15-yard penalty but the post TD celebration raised plenty of questions. Was Celek trying to promote the alcoholic brand? Was it just for fun? Will he be fined?
First off, no Celek will not be fined. And I feel there is no need to. Afterward, Celek denied being paid by the company to do it, and the celebration was just for fun. But, an account executive of Captain Morgan told the truth that Celek was indeed involved. However, the executive also included that the money was for charity only. “A company can’t pay a player to somehow promote it’s product on the field.” This is what league spokesman Greg Aiello said.
Captain Morgan executives have apologized; “I don’t want people to think our intention was to [upset] the NFL,” they said. “It’s at the point where we need to re-think how we can go about doing this and find a way that we can raise money without getting people upset.”
We all remember Desean Jackson’s explosion celebration against the Panthers. We go from that to this. We are really getting a great deal of entertainment in Philly. I dont believe it will, but I hope this doesn’t escalate into something that doesn’t have to happen. We should get rid of all of this press and media, and just get down to football and win a championship.
