Besides the game with the Saints, all the other games the Eagles have lost have been close. These are always the most frustrating games to lose as you know that if one or two things would have gone differently, the outcome of the game could have ended in your favor. However, this is part of football and just something you have to deal with. Beating the Bears felt nice on Sunday because the Eagles were the team on the winning side of a close game. It was kind of ugly, but a win is a win.
I think winning a close game like this can mean a lot to a team. It usually shows a contribution from both sides of the ball to get these type of wins. This was the case against the Bears as the offense got the go ahead touchdown and shortly after the defense forced a timely turnover, their first of the game. When a team is trailing and starts a drive with limited time left in the fourth quarter you are forced to hold your breath. When Sean Jones ended up intercepting a deflected ball, the city of Philadelphia let out a big sigh of relief.
There are definitely many things to look back upon and improve from the game with the Bears, but the main thing is the Eagles walked away with a win. Do you think the Cowboys felt good about themselves by beating the Redskins 7-6 this weekend? I’m sure they didn’t but winning is winning.
Winning games like these shows character. Football games on the road are hard to win no matter who you are playing. I’m happy the Eagles came home with the close victory, and I hope it gives them the confidence they need to make a legitimate playoff run.
