Michael Vick didn’t do anything overly flashy on Sunday against the Falcons but he was able to run for a touchdown as well as throw for one. His production has been slowly increasing as the season has gone on although he is still seeing a limited number of reps. He has been making some plays with his feet and is showing he can be a key contributor in the Eagles run game. With that being said, you have to wonder if we will see him get an increase in the number of reps in these final four regular season games.
If it wasn’t for a tweaked hand injury, we would have seen a lot more Michael Vick on Sunday than we did. It seemed that Andy was content in letting Vick finish the game in the stadium where he did so many amazing things in years past; however, he was unable to do so after obtaining a minor hand injury. Kevin Kolb entered the finished the game for the Eagles. When Vick was in, he was responsible for two red zone touchdowns. His first came on a 5 yard rush where the Eagles spread the field and let him run the ball out of the shotgun. This is something I’ve been wishing the Eagles would do for a while now so I was pleased to see them run it and score. Andy also made a nice play call where Vick ran to his left and threw the ball back across the field to a wide open Brent Celek who was able to score. This is something Donovan could do as well so I wish they would have called it earlier in the season as I think it’s a solid call. Atlanta expected Vick to run though so the play was set up nicely.
Michael Vick can run the ball in a variety of different ways, and I’ll be interested to see if the Eagles start calling his number more often down the stretch since they’ve seen some recent success. He can run straight up out of the shotgun, in the wildcat, in the option we saw them run with Reggie Brown, or even a quarterback draw. This all adds another element to the run game and can help the team control the clock. Also, you know the guy is bound to break a big one if he gets enough reps. We saw this when he broke that 30+ yard run against the Bears.
It’s hard to tell if the Eagles will try to use Vick more as the regular season winds down because you never know what’s running through Andy Reid’s head. However, it is something I would like to see.
Do you think the Eagles should feature Michael Vick more?
