Jeremy Maclin is the only Eagle who did not participate at least on a limited basis today. Akeem Jordan and DeSean Jackson were full participants and Brian Westbrook and Kevin Curtis were listed as limited participants. It is doubtful that Curtis and Westbrook will practice, but it is good to see them back on the practice field and looking like they could see game action sometime down the stretch.
For me, this is one of the more promising things I’m seeing with this football team. They have struggled a lot with injuries but still sit at a good spot in the playoff hunt with an 8-4 record. It seems as though they have stepped up their game in the past couple weeks and this is exactly the time where teams really need to turn it on. If the Birds can get everyone healthy and role into the playoffs with a full squad, they could be a very dangerous team.
A lot of times, the teams that get hot at the end of the season and pick up a wild card spot are the teams that tend to do better in the playoffs. The teams who clinch super early can put themselves at a huge disadvantage by sitting their starters the last game. Doing this and having a first round bye leaves your players out of game action for two weeks. This is where teams who battled their way in take advantage. There is a sort of momentum that is built and carries team to success.
As of right now it looks like the the Saints and Vikings will take the first round byes which means if the Eagles do make the playoffs they will have a first round match up with someone. The key here would be to win the division so they could host this game at home. I believe that is very obtainable by the way they have played as of late, as well as the schedule of the Giants and Cowboys. It’s actually quite simple for the Birds. Win out and you win the division. It may be a lot to ask for but they can control their own fate. It’s very possible for them to not win out and still win the division but you’d rather see them do it themselves.
Things seem to be falling together for this team at the right time, so let’s hope they take advantage.
