Yea, I know that six Eagles made the Pro Bowl, but I think no two Eagles deserved it more than DeSean Jackson and Leonard Weaver. These two have earned it in different ways, but both were very deserving.
DeSean Jackson has incredible big play potential. Whenever he gets his hands on the ball he is a threat to score and is quite arguably the most explosive player in the NFL right now. His big play ability this year has been needed. The Eagles have been forced to play the majority of the season without a healthy Brian Westbrook, whom over the last few years has been one of the biggest keys to the Eagles offensive success. In Westbrook’s absence, it seemed like Jackson was making at least a big play each week and was really fueling the Eagles offense. We also saw just how tough he is this year. Jackson is not a big guy by any means and obtained a concussion this season. He missed just one game and when he returned he looked better than ever. The Eagles have needed a long-term number one receiver for quite some time now, and Jackson is truly filling the void.
Leonard Weaver is just a great story. He comes to Philadelphia to fill another void the Eagles had on offense, the fullback position. We’ve seen the Eagles play around with the position for many years now and with no success. When they signed Weaver, it seemed like we finally had a legitamate answer. However, no one knew just how good it could get. Much like Jackson, Weaver stepped in huge when Westbrook went down. He became a huge running threat for the Eagles and also proved he could catch the ball out of the backfield. We’ve seen the guy carry the ball 17 times in one game, which I’m sure is more times than a fullback received in entire seasons in the past, possibly multiple seasons. He is humble and truly deserves the recognition.
Congratulations to DeSean Jackson, Leonard Weaver, and all the rest of the Eagles Pro Bowl selections!
