This is a very hot topic right now. Julius Peppers is set to hit the free agency market and will be the biggest name on the market this year. Many teams will look at possibly adding Peppers to their roster and the Eagles will be one of those teams. Peppers has just turned 30, but has recorded double digit sack totals in all but two seasons during his career. He is a huge player and extremely athletic for his size.
I don’t think that there is any doubt the Eagles will look into signing Peppers; however, the question will be just how interested are they. Again, Peppers just turned 30 and for the Eagles that’s usually the magic number where interest levels go way down. Another thing to consider is the fact that Peppers is going to want a boatload of money; the kind of money the Eagles aren’t typically known for giving a player of that age.
However, there’s no question that the Eagles could use an elite pass rusher to lineup opposite of Trent Cole and wreak havoc next season. Signing Peppers could also take pressure off trying to draft an elite defensive end in the first round so the Eagles could go after a safety or linebacker. If they signed Peppers, they could also still draft a defensive end and really try to heat up the competition in the offseason. There are many different scenarios that are possible.
The bottom line is that the Eagles will definitely be interested but only at the right price. If Peppers’ request isn’t reasonable, I don’t think the Eagles will hesitate to pass on him.
Do you think the Eagles should sign Julius Peppers?
