In a down year for Michigan, Brandon Graham was one of the few bright spots. In his senior season in 2009, Graham recorded 10 sacks to tie his total from the 2008 season. He is ranked third by Mel Kiper out of the defensive ends in this year’s draft but is the number one senior. Graham’s numbers in 2008 were solid, but he came back for his senior year and performed even better. At 6-2 265 pounds, he’s not going to be the biggest player on the field but has a skill set that many others don’t.
At the NFL Combine, Graham ran a 4.72 40-yard dash and bench pressed 225 pounds a total of 31 times. He was unable to workout at the Michigan Pro Day as he is recovering from a strained hamstring that he obtained at the Combine. As an invite to the Senior Bowl, Graham was definitely suspected of being a top prospect, but he solidified these statements and drove his stock up with a good week of work and performance in the game.
Both Kiper and Todd McShay have Graham going to the Patriots with the 22nd overall pick in the draft, just out of the Eagles reach. However, that’s very much still in play. He could fall down to the 24th pick or if the Eagles are high enough on him and scared he could go before that, they could move up a few spots to take him.
Personally, I think Graham would be a great addition for the Eagles and a very nice complement for Trent Cole. There is a lot of talent in this year’s draft at the defensive end position so it should be interesting to see if the Eagles try to address this need first. If so, Graham could very well be the guy they choose to start filling in the holes on defense.
