I am furious with myself. Absolutely furious. 7-7 is unacceptable in my book and I pride myself every season in being someone who can out pick the experts. I find solace with the fact that I don’t know anyone who did well this weekend. But, let’s take a look at the games anyway.
(Teams I’m picked will be italicized. Teams that won will be in bold. If I picked the correct team it’ll look like this.)
Jaguars @ Bills – Two weeks in a row David Garrard has been down and led his team to victory. Kudos to him. The Bills continue to give their fans brief glimmers of hope only to let them down at the end. I still believe the Bills won’t win a game all season and that is going to be playing into my strategy for eliminator pools.
Broncos @ Ravens – Sheer and utter domination by the Ravens. What’s truly incredible is that they still don’t have their best DB in the secondary. Once Ed Reed returns this defense is going to be darn near impossible to score on. The Broncos defense played valiantly in the first quarter but after that the Ravens offense took flight. I feel so clever for coming up with that. I know I’m not.
Chiefs @ Colts – Yes, the Colts won but the Chiefs proved they are no joke. Prior to the season everyone, with the exception of blind Kansas City homers, would have said the Colts would obliterate the Chiefs. Not the case. The Chiefs kept Manning and his offense in check not allowed a TD until the very end of the game. Manning had a subpar day. The Chiefs could very well win that division. The Colts, despite getting the win, should be worried.
Packers @ Redskins – The Redskins are the NFC East equivalent of the Bears. The bounces they get are ridiculously lucky. However, that luck will run out. The Packers shot themselves in the foot so many times and Aaron Rodgers went down with a concussion towards the end of the game. Enjoy the win ‘Skins fans because your luck is dwindling.
Rams @ Lions – The score 44-6 brings back joyous memories. Seeing the Lions finally get a win after being so close all season also makes me happy. Getting the pick right makes me even happier. The Lions came out firing and embarrassed the Rams. Great win by the Lions but it didn’t come without a cost. Stud WR Calvin Johnson has what appears to be a “serious shoulder injury.” The Lions offense was able to survive without Matt Stafford. They won’t be able to survive without Johnson.
Bears @ Panthers – The Panthers might not win a game all season either. They are so bad. Coming into the game they knew that the only true weapon the Bears had this weekend was Matt Forte. Everyone knows that Todd Collins is a backup for a reason. So, common sense would say that you focus on taking Forte out of the game and make Collins beat you. The Panthers decided to not do that and what resulted was a Matt Forte Musical (see what I did there?). The Bears rolled, as they darn well should have.
Buccaneers @ Bengals – I hate the Bengals. Two weeks in a row they’ve screwed me. No more. NO MORE. I am not taking the Bengals unless they are facing a vastly inferior opponent. Give the Bucs their due credit, they made plays when they had to. Big plays. Also, Josh Freeman is really starting to impress me. He’s not putting up great numbers but he is clearly a leader on the field and knows how to win. Also, a fun prediction: Carson Palmer will be either a Buffalo Bill or San Francisco 49er next season after he’s released.
Falcons @ Browns – It was close for a while but in the end the Falcons were able to pull it out. In my eyes they are the best team in that division. They also made what might be the defensive play of the year when DE Kroy Biermann came crashing through the Browns offensive line, tipped the pass, dove to catch it, got up, and rumbled for the TD. Beware a big man with football (credit to ESPN or NFL Network).
Giants @ Texans – The Giants defense is alive. They made the Texans offense look nonexistent. Matt Schaub looked lost out there. Meanwhile the Giants was off to the races with WR Hakeem Nicks leading the charge. I was just completely wrong about this game. All over Houston wanted signs are being posted. They are searching for the Texans secondary.
Saints @ Cardinals – Undrafted rookie QB going against the Super Bowl champions. Sounds like a terrible Disney movie. It ended like one too. The Cardinals somehow got their defense to perform like it had last season and shockingly upset the Cardinals. Here’s what’s wild….none of the Arizona skills position players scored a TD. None. The only offensive player to score a TD for the Cardinals was OT Levi Brown who scooped up a fumble by Max Hall. Weird game and my sources tell me that the Disney company is contacting Mark Wahlberg about playing Max Hall.
Titans @ Cowboys – Say it with me friends. DALLAS SUCKS. See, this is one of those games I’m thrilled that I got wrong. Why? Because as much as I care about my picks I care about my Eagles more and Dallas losing is always a wonderful thing for my birds! The Titans offense woke up and responded big time to the “dominate” Dallas defense. I actually think the Dallas defense might be worse than ours. Also, I seem to have fixed Chris Johnson. Last week I said he was playing lousy. Then he goes and rips off 131 yards and 2 TDs. Fantasy owners can thank me by sending a check. I’ll also take cash.
Chargers @ Raiders – The Chargers special teams were brought to you by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The comeback by the Raiders was brought to you by Jason Campbell (who I said should be starting). The Chargers offense played well enough but were playing catchup from the very start. The Raiders snap an 13 game losing streak to the Chargers in thrilling fashion.
Eagles @ 49ers – You can find my hits on the game here. Also, there will be a podcast up tomorrow (Wednesday) going into greater detail.
Vikings @ Jets – I am usually not one for “moral victories.” In fact, for the most part I completely discount the idea. You either win or you lose. However, I can’t help but feel the Vikings took a step in the right direction against the Jets. They were so close to pulling it out against the best defense in football and that with a Randy Moss that barely knows the system. This team is no where near dead and I still think they’ll win the division. The Jets eked out and for the most part their offense was stagnant. But, they made plays when they had to. Great game.
