This week starts the Thursday night football games. That means I have significantly less time to get my picks posted. Oh fun. Last week I had a fairly successful week going 9-4 and this week I hope to build upon that momentum and get even better. Why? Because of two reasons. For one, I like being the best. Two, I want to give you the best predictions I possibly can. So, without any further ado let’s hit it!
By picks will be italicized.
Ravens @ Falcons – Well, we couldn’t have asked for a better game to start off Thursday night football. We have, in my mind, two of the best teams in the NFL. The Falcons have only lost one game at home whenever Matt Ryan has started and the Ravens have lost twice on the road. However, Matt Ryan has not faced a defense quite like Baltimore’s yet this season. I expect the Ravens to go into Atlanta and beat him up and force him into rare mistakes. This will be a great game but give me the Ravens on the road.
Lions @ Bills – The Bills are not as bad as I’ve been saying they are. Honestly, the two worst teams in the NFL right now are the Cowboys and Panthers. They have no fight in them. The Bills are battling every week and now they get to take on a depleted Lions team that struggles on the road. The Lions are a team on the rise and they too are fighting in every game but I think the Bills finally get a W this weekend.
Vikings @ Bears – This is a tough game. Both teams know each other very well. Both teams are poorly coached. Both teams have a QB who seems to delight in throwing mind numbingly stupid INTs. So, who to take? If this game were later in the season, I’d be taking the Bears because Brett Favre is nothing short of awful in cold weather games. However, it won’t be frigid yet so I like the Vikings to go into the windy city and take care of business. This will be a close game because I don’t trust either offense but give me the Vikings on the road.
Jets @ Browns – I’m not buying the Browns yet. I believe they’ve been overlooked by teams and that’s something the Jets won’t do now given the past few weeks. Plus, I have a feeling a certain Braylon Edwards is going to want to show up the Browns front office for getting rid of him. Everyone loves a “revenge game.” Should the Browns be able to pull off the win, I’ll buy what they’re selling. But right now I think the Jets are the better overall team and will be the more prepared one. Give me the Jets on the road.
Bengals @ Colts – Peyton Manning doesn’t handle loses well. He especially doesn’t handle them well when he is made to look like an average QB. Both of those things happened to him last weekend and that does not bode well for a floundering Bungles team. The fact that Manning historically has strong games against them makes it all the worse for them. Give me the Colts, hands down.
Texans @ Jaguars – This is a toss up game for me. Neither team is all that good but I at the end of the day the Texans have the far superior offense. The Jaguars offense is reaching some decent levels of potency with the improved play of Garrard lately but it won’t be enough. The Texans have been shredded lately in the passing game but they’ve been facing great QBs. That isn’t the case this weekend and I like the Texans to win on the road.
Titans @ Dolphins – The debut of Moss 4.0 (or is it 5.0?) is this weekend. Yes, we now get to watch Moss destroy a team’s locker room in a different uniform. Oh fun! But in all seriousness, if there’s a coach who can handle Moss it’s Jeff Fisher. The Dolphins are going to be starting QB Chad “I can throw a deep ball 30 yards” Pennington. The Titans are on a roll. Those two combined make me like the Titans on the road. Sorry Dolphins fans, you’ll win at home eventually.
Panthers @ Buccaneers – The Panthers are like the Cowboys. They’ve quit. The Buccaneers fought hard last week in a match-up with the Falcons and came within a yard of winning it. In short, the Panthers are among the two worst teams in the league and the Bucs are among the better teams in the NFC. Who’d have thought that? I love the Bucs at home despite the fact it’s a divisional match-up. This won’t be a tough game.
Chiefs @ Broncos – Somehow the Broncos are only 1 point dogs at home. That truly baffles me. The Chiefs, despite losing last week, are proving that they are contending for that division. The Broncos are a train wreck and it’s not even that fun to watch. Remind me again why they drafted Tim Tebow when QB is the least of their worries? They could have used, oh I don’t know, eleven defensive players and five linemen? Gimme the Chiefs.
Seahawks @ Cardinals – Both teams are mediocre. The Seahawks, after being dubbed by Tony Dungy as the best team in the NFC, has gotten rocked immensely. The Cardinals are losing close games. I like a team that loses tough games to beat a team that gets absolutely blown out. The good news is that Seattle likely won’t be starting Charlie Whitehurst at QB. The bad news is that they’re still a bad team with Matt Hasselbeck. Give me the Cardinals at home.
Cowboys @ Giants – Let’s see, we have a head coaching problem. One of our team’s biggest issue is scoring points. Let’s fire the head coach (and defensive coordinator) and promote the offensive coordinator who’s schemes have proven to be okay at best. Great move Cowboys. They are truly awful and I love it. As you know I’m not a full believer in the Giants but I like them 100% this weekend. They will smack the John Kitna led Cowboys around. Enjoy preparing for the off-season Dallas fans. But don’t worry, you still have the Lakers and the Yankees might be signing Cliff Lee!
Rams @ 49ers – I think this game will tell us a lot about who is going to win that division. Should the Rams be able to go into San Francisco after both teams were on a bye I think they can take care of business. I’m already on the record in saying I think the Rams are going to the playoffs just because the rest of that division is so horrid. The 49ers have their backs against the wall but that hasn’t helped them beat too many teams when they’ve had to. Give me the Rams on the road.
Patriots @ Steelers – The NFL sure got this Sunday Night Football match-up right. This will be a polar opposite to what we had last week. Both teams are tough and are easily among the upper levels of the league. This is without question the hardest game to pick. But I do know it’ll be a great game. At the end of the day, I have a hard time picking against the Patriots especially when the Steelers have looked far more mortal lately. So, as of now, I’m going with the Patriots over the Steelers.
Eagles @ Redskins – You can find my thoughts on the game here at our podcast page. Enjoy.
Last weekend: 9-4
