Two weeks in a row now that I’ve been picking them pretty darn well. Let’s hope it continues. It was yet another exciting week in the NFL with games going to the wire, to OT, and we had some big wins. All in all, it was a ton of fun and the season continues to be baffling as ever! But, I am starting to get a handle on things. I went 12-4 for the week and as always, let’s take a quick look at the games!
My picks will be in italics. The winning team will be in bold. If I got the game right it’ll look like this.
Patriots @ Lions – You need to give the Lions some credit. They kept it close for 3 quarters. But, like I’ve said all season, good teams win close games and poor teams don’t. The final score shows the Patriots rolling all over the Lions but that wasn’t quite the story. The Lions are certainly on their way up but right now the Patriots are one of, if not the, best teams in the league.
Saints @ Cowboys – Look at those Cowboys, making a game out of it. I believe the Cowboys coming back and taking the lead was more a result of the Saints getting comfortable with a 17 point lead. But, good teams win close games. Bad teams make the mistakes that lead to the good team winning. Roy Williams, ladies and gentlemen. He had a chance to ice the game but instead he had the ball stripped by Mike Jenkins. From there the Saints drove, took the lead and escaped Dallas with the victory.
Bengals @ Jets – The Bungles led the Jets 7-3 at halftime. The Jets won the game 26-10. Typical Bungles, typical Jets. Brad Smith led the charge for the Jets as he scored a TD rushing the ball and a TD returning a kick. Dude’s dangerous. The Bungles continue their pitiful season and they now stand at 2-9. How is a team with a offense featuring T.O., Chad Ochocinco, and Cedric Benson this bad? Carson Palmer. And Marvin Lewis. The offseason will be fun in Cincinnati.
Packers @ Falcons – Matt Ryan must not be human. There is no logical reason for him to be so ridiculously good at home. The Packers played valiant football but at the end the Falcons made enough plays throughout the game that gave them the chance to go ahead at the end of the game. They won it on a last second FG and I don’t thin there was a better way for this game to end. It was close all along and featured what could be a preview of the NFC Championship game in the playoffs. Was that a tease?
Steelers @ Bills – Wow. The Bills had this game. They had it. Steve Johnson (my fantasy savior) had it in his hands and he dropped it. Literally. The Bills came back and took the Steelers to OT. Ryan Fitzpatrick launched a perfect pass to a wide open Steve Johnson in the endzone and he just dropped it. While I picked the Steelers to win, I felt awful for Bills fans. The Steelers ended up taking it in OT by kicking a game winning FG. But you need to say this about the Bills – They have no quit in them. Good things are happening in Buffalo.
Panthers @ Browns – I missed the fact that Colt McCoy had an injury when I predicted this game. It didn’t matter. Somehow Jake Delhomme was able to eek out the win. He did his best to do just the opposite however. That just speaks to how terrible the Panthers are. Seriously, I have nothing else to say. The Panthers are awful.
Titans @ Texans – How did a defense as bad as the Texans’ shutout an offense that has Chris Johnson? That baffles me. The Titans are in complete disarray and I think Jeff Fisher will be gone next season. I respect him as a man but I’ve never understood the enamoring with his coaching ability. That said, he isn’t the main problem but the owner will not give up on Vince Young. If Vince Young is there, Jeff Fisher is not. I think that’s what happens next season. The Texans rolled and they continue to give their fan base false hope.
Jaguars @ Giants – The Giants aren’t quitters, no question about it. They came back from a rather large deficit against a good Jacksonville team to take the victory. That said, you can see the injuries taking their toll on the Giants. The loss of Hakeem Nicks is killing them as is the losses along the offensive line. The Jaguars lost a game on the road to a tough defensive opponent and there’s no shame in that. Luckily for them the Colts lost as well so they retain their lead in the AFC South.
Vikings @ Redskins – I take back what I said last week about the Bears have the worst WR core in the league. That prestigious title goes to the Redskins. They are truly pitiful. McNabb is not playing well but he’s getting no help either. But that’s what happens when you play fantasy football Dan Snyder. The Vikings eked out a close win on the road to a fairly poor team so right now I see no true improvement from them. However, Favre didn’t throw any INTs. Baby steps.
Dolphins @ Raiders – Let me get this right…Jason Campbell has played very good for you. So you bench him for Bruce Gradkowski who has been average at best? Tom Cable, that just doesn’t make sense. The Dolphins, despite all their injury woes were able to go into the Black Hole and steal a win away. Poor decisions like what we saw in Oakland make me appreciate Andy Reid even more. He maddening but at least he plays the best player.
Chiefs @ Seahawks – The Rams are going to win the NFC West. The Seahawks miserable performance at home sealed that for me. Also, the Rams finally winning on the road. But, the Chiefs came into Seattle and blew the figurative roof off Qwest Field. I personally cannot wait to see the Chiefs take on the Chargers. I think that will be a great game for the AFC West crown. Meanwhile, the Seahawks are going from bad to worse. Fast.
Buccaneers @ Ravens – Good teams take care of business at home against not so good teams. That’s what the Ravens did. However, it didn’t come without a cost. LT Michael Oher was injured though we don’t know the extent of the injury right now. The Buccaneers are a team headed in the right direction but they still need a few pieces before they can truly contend. Side note: Aqib Talib might’ve made one of the best INTs I’ve ever seen.
Eagles @ Bears – You can find my thoughts on the game here.
Rams @ Broncos – Remind me again why the Broncos drafted Tim Tebow? Oh, that’s right. It’s because Josh McDaniels has no idea what he’s doing. The Rams had been awful on the road all season and they put up 36 points in the Mile High City. The Broncos have some serious problems and they start with the coaching staff. The Rams are not a great team but they’re en route to the playoffs, believe it or not.
Chargers @ Colts – The Colts reign has ended. I’m pronouncing it here. Tony Dungy was the true miracle worker behind the scenes and I mean that as no insult to Peyton Manning. But the Colts are simply not overcoming injuries like they used to and that’s because of personnel and player moves. The Chargers are looking like the Chargers we all know. They start off slow and end as good as any team in the league. Watch out AFC.
49ers @ Cardinals – My views on the game can be perfectly summed up by Mr. Derek Anderson here. This wasn’t funny. It was painful.
