Today has been the Eagles’ biggest day of the unofficial free agency. They came to terms with a defensive end, have traded Kevin Kolb and have been involved in numerous rumors.
The wait is finally over, and Kevin Kolb is officially a Cardinal after months of speculation that he would be there. Here is a full analysis of the deal.
Before the Kolb trade the Eagles signed Jason Babin who had a one year stint with the Eagles back in 2009. To get more details on Babin and the deal, click here.
There has been speculation building up about the Eagles and recently released quarterback Vince Young. Many sources have claimed that the Eagles have interest, and that they asked the Titans to talk to his agent before he was released. He has had his off the field issues, but in a backup role, may be more reluctant to cause a scene.
On the running back scene, the Eagles have been linked to Darren Sproles. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune said that Sproles is deciding between the Eagles, Saints, and Chargers and is expected to make a decision in the near future. He would fit in well with his running style, ability to catch out of the backfield, and capability to return kicks and punts.
Adam Caplan has reported via twitter that the Eagles may be pursuing linebacker Stephen Tulloch. He also said that a name to remember is outside linebacker, Kirk Morrison who played last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Some notables from training camp are that Casey Matthews is playing with the first teamers at middle linebacker, with Moise Fokou and Jamar Chaney playing the outside. Kurt Coleman started alongside Nate Allen at the safety positions.
On the defensive line, the starters were from left to right, Jaqua Parker, Antonio Dixon, Mike Patterson, and Trent Cole. On the offensive line it was King Dunlap at right tackle, Mike McGlynn at right guard, Jackson at center, Herremens at left guard, and Jason Peters at left tackle.
Jason Peters and Trevard Lindley left practice early today. Peters looked out of shape and Trevard’s injury hasn’t been released.
Around the league:
The Patriots have been busy trading for Albert Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco today.
Stewart Bradley is being pursued by the Arizona Cardinals and the St. Louis Rams.
Sav Rocca has signed with the Redskins, also, new punter Chas Henry was very impressive in camp today.
Update: All signs are pointing to the Eagles signing Vince Young. When asked whether the backup quarterback needed to have experience in the west coast offense, Andy Reid responded by saying that they don’t have to have experience. Also, a source close to Young said that he would like to learn under Michael Vick, Reid, and Marty Mornhinweg.
