Week two is in the books and I’ve improved by one whole game. I’m a big boy now. Time for week three. Are you excited? I am. I’m super duper excited. I’m feeling a little goofy as I write this, in case you haven’t noticed. With two weeks down, I’m starting to get a feel for teams around the league. I’m also get a feel for the replacement refs. I have nothing new to add to that discussion. They’re terrible and I can’t wait to see how they screw up games this weekend.
Let’s hit it!
My picks will be in italics.
Giants @ Panthers – Let me explain my thought process here because it’s admittedly complicated. This is also a total shot in the dark. The Giants had a very long break between weeks one and two. Now they have a short break. The Buccaneers are on a schedule that is a little more normal (as normal at Thursday Night Football can be). The Giants are also coming off a very emotional win over the Buccaneers. These factors lead me to believe that the Giants are going to be off in the beginning of this game. The Panthers, on the other hand, are riding high after a huge win over the Saints. Oh, and the Giants are also beat up something fierce. Give me the Panthers.
Rams @ Bears – The Rams showed they were no slouch last week. Da Bears looked bad last week. Really bad. I’m very tempted to go with the Bears here since they’ve had the long time off and Jay Cutler and Co. do have something to prove…however I’m just going with my gut here. I think Jay Cutler is in for another very long game unless that Bears offensive line has gotten its collective act together in the past 10 days. Give me the Rams.
Bills @ Browns – There’s the Bills I was expecting. They put a beat down on the Chiefs last week. Now that they have that little confidence boost, I think the Bills are going to go on a little roll here. Luckily for them they get to go up against the Browns who, while they did looked improved, did not look all that dandy agains the Bengals. I’m gonna say that Mr. Mario Williams will give Brandon Weeden a nice and rough welcome to the NFL. Give me the Bills.
Buccaneers @ Cowboys – The Bucs have a problem. They are a good team. They have the potential to be a very good team. However, they cannot close out a game. Now, in their defense, last week they went against one of the clutchest (It’s a word now, okay) QBs in the league. Now they get to go against the Cowboys who are coming off a dismal performance against Seattle. I really want to pick the Buccaneers here, but I can’t. Here’s what I see happening…the Bucs will build a nice sized lead and then the Cowboys will slowly crawl their way back to win it in the waning minutes of the game. Then the media will proclaim that Romo has become clutch. Romo will then blow in an upcoming game. The world spins. Give me the Cowboys.
Jaguars @ Colts – Andrew Luck hasn’t set the league a blaze yet. He looked very good last week but he didn’t start any sparks like RG3 has. I think this is the week. The Jags are a weak team and I say Mr. Luck takes full advantage of all their issues. The Colts defense is also going to look far better than they really are. I’ve been really down on the Jags this year…haven’t I? Oh well. Give me the Colts.
Jets @ Dolphins – The Dolphins shocked me last week. Shocked me. If they do it again this week, I’ll completely rethink them. However, for now, I think last week as a fluke (Get it? Fluke. Heehee.). The Jets aren’t a powerhouse by any means but I think they can handle Miami. I’ll also say that Tebow makes a splash. (Get it? Splash. Heehee.). Give me the Jets.
49ers @ Vikings – The 49ers look like the best team in the league. The Vikings….aren’t. I’ll say this, however. The Vikings will make a game of it early. Just a hunch. In the end, give me the 49ers.
Chiefs @ Saints – It’s time. Seriously. It’s time for the Saints to win. Drew Brees has to step it up. I say he does it in front of an antsy home crowd. The Chiefs just don’t look good at all. Two weeks in a row now they’ve been beaten handily. That is exactly what the Saints need and I say they’ll take full advantage of the situation. Give me the Saints.
Lions @ Titans – My theory….Chris Johnson has been kidnapped and JoeSchmo from the streets is currently playing in his place. That’s the only possible explanation. Well, that and him just mailing it in. Yeah, that. The Lions are going to be playing with some extra edge. Give me the Lions.
Bengals @ Redskins – I have a serious man crush on RG3. Dude can play. I like a lot of what’s going on in Cincinnati and I think the Bengals will make this a very interesting game. Washington clearly has some issues that were exploited by the Rams last week, but I think RG3’s home debut is going to be a smashing success. Give me the RedskinsEagles @ Cardinals – Okay, I’ll bite. If the Eagles can limit or eliminate the turnovers, they will be one dangerous team. Of course this game is all about the storyline. Kevin Kolb gets to unleash vengeance on the team that traded him away! Or something. I don’t see Kolb finishing this game. The Arizona offensive line is weak as it is and the Eagles defensive line is among the best in the entire league. That’s a fun combination from my rooting point of view. Give me the Eagles.
Falcons @ Chargers – How about them Falcons? They look good. Really good. Sunday’s win over the Broncos was huge. I don’t care if Peyton Manning isn’t the Peyton Manning of old. Picking him off three times is impressive. The Falcons are impressive. The Chargers are also looking pretty good, though they’ve had far lighter competition in my opinion. A 3-0 start is in the books for one of these teams and I really like the Falcons. They’re such a complete team. Give me the Falcons.
Texans @ Broncos – Speaking of Peyton, I think he’s about to drop to 1-2. Panic shall ensue. The Texans are looking dangerous. If this team can stay healthy, the sky’s the limit. The Broncos looked terrible at times last week and they looked great at times. This should be expected. I’m thinking that this is going to be one heck of a great game. The Texans boast an explosive offense, the Broncos have a solid defense. The Broncos have Mr. Manning-with-a-chip-on-his-shoulder, the Texans have a formidable defense. This is going to be good. But, I’ll always go with the more complete team, in this case, Houston. Give me the Texans.
Steelers @ Raiders – I had medium hopes for the Raiders. Oops. The Steelers looked like they regained their classic form last week even without some stars of that killer defense. $10 says you can guess who I’m going with. Nope. Not the Raiders. Silly. I’m going with the Steelers. Why? They’re a far better team and the Raiders look helpless. Also, Carson Palmer historically speaking has not done well against Pittsburgh. Give me the Steelers.
Patriots @ Ravens – We all picked the Cards to beat the Patriots…right? Heh. Weird year so far. The Ravens came so close to beating the Eagles and the Patriots were highly exposed against the Cardinals. I like that equation for Baltimore. The loss of Aaron Hernandez is going to make life all the harder on the Patriots as they go against a vicious defense. Give me the Ravens.
Packers @ Seahawks – There’s the Packers we were waiting for. Those Seahawks aren’t looking too shabby either. On paper, common sense would likely say that the Packers would take this game easily. I’m tempted to go that way, but I honestly don’t see it. Seattle is a tough place to play for any visiting team, even one led by Aaron Rodgers. I do see the Packers winning this game, but I think it’s going to be very close. This should be a fun one. Give me the Packers.
