I was going to start this article with a rant about the replacement officials, Roger Goodell, the owners, and Nickelback. Well, the replacement official issue has been resolved. So there goes that. Oh wait….Niceklback. Yeah, they suck.
So I’m having a rough season so far. Really rough. But I’ve still got time to turn it around. Luckily week four is going to start with what should be an easy game to pick.
$10 says that, in saying that, I’ve jinxed it.
Let’s hit it.
As always, my picks will be in italics.
Browns @ Ravens – Let’s start with the positives about Cleveland. They have a pretty decent defense. Yup, that’s about it. Okay that’s not entirely fair. Trent Richardson is looking like a future stud at RB an Brandon Weeden has improved each week. Now for the bad news…they have to go to Baltimore Thursday night. Ouch. The Ravens have been darn near unbeatable at home and in their division. I’d also like to take this moment to send my condolences to Torrey Smith. I’m an older brother and hearing the story about his younger brother’s death was just heartbreaking. All of that aside, I’m going with the Ravens here. They’re a far superior team in almost every way. Obviously that doesn’t always translate to a win, but I just don’t see Cleveland making much noise in this game past the first quarter. Give me the Ravens
Panthers @ Falcons – Man oh man do these Falcons look good. Really really good. I’m not going to proclaim them as the NFC Super Bowl representative but they look excellent. The Panthers are struggling. Cam Newton is going through his sophomore slump and his leadership is being questioned. That happens, I see no cause for concern. If anything that could make the Panthers all the more dangerous today. I expect a closer game than many might, but in the end the Falcons will prove to be too much for the Panthers. Give me the Falcons.
Patriots @ Bills – There’s no way the Patriots lose three in a row. It just won’t happen. It won’t. I refuse to believe it. Okay, you might be able to convince me. But no. No. The Bills are a decent team but now they have to deal with a genuinely angry Patriots team. I’m sorry, that’s a recipe for disaster. I say Tom Brady goes nuts today and New England wins big. Give me the Patriots.
Vikings @ Lions – The Lions have a problem. They seem to have lost all that made them a team to potentially fear. The ferociousness is lost. Matthew Stafford doesn’t look like the stud he did last year. Well, I say that ends this week. Don’t get me wrong, this won’t be a blowout. The Vikings proved that they’re not a team to overlook when they beat the 49ers last week but now they have to go on the road and I think they’re primed for a letdown. The Lions are a wounded animal who know they need this win. Give me the Lions.
Titans @ Texans – I view the Texans in the way I view the Falcons…I won’t name them my AFC Super Bowl team but man oh man do they look good. The Titans have a lot of issues, many going back to Chris Johnson disappearing. The Texans have a dominate defense and I think they’re going to make life miserable on second year man Jake Locker this afternoon. Give me the Texans.
Chargers @ Chiefs – Are the Chiefs the worst team in the league? Well, I was thinking that until they beat the Saints last week (we all called that, right?). Now I have no idea who they are but my gut tells me they’re still a lousy team. I think Phillip Rivers is going to nuts like Brady as well this weekend when he goes against that terrible Kansas City secondary. Give me the Chargers.
49ers @ Jets – Does anyone actually think that a Jim Harbaugh led team is going to get beaten two weeks in a row? I sure don’t. I just can’t see it. Plus, the Jets just lost the man who makes that defense go with Darrelle Revis going out for the year with a torn ACL. I think the 49ers come in fired up and put a beat down on the Jets. Give me the 49ers.
Seahawks @ Rams – Sam Bradford is in for a long day. That Seattle defense is legit. If dominating the Green Bay Packers wasn’t an issue, I don’t see dominating the Rams as being an issue either. The Rams have so much potential that is brought down by a lack of weapons. They’re a frustrating team to watch. Give me the Seahawks.
Dolphins @ Cardinals – How about those Cardinals? I mean…we all totally saw this coming, right? They look legit. I know it’s still early but that is a team that has its collective act together. They have some really nice weapons on offense and that defense is smothering. The Dolphins looked alright against a fairly weak Jets team (oh yes, I went there) last week but that was at home. Now they get to go on the road in what is sure to be a crazy environment and take on the surprise team of the year. Give me the Cardinals.
Raiders @ Broncos – Where’s the Peyton Manning that we saw in week 1? He looks fine, but not great. Okay, maybe he didn’t look great against the Steelers. Maybe that was me just hoping he was great again. Either way, I think we see a vintage Manning show today. This is just a hunch. Maybe it’s a Peyton bias. I dunno. Give me the Broncos.
Bengals @ Jaguars – Jacksonville is second in their division! What?!?!? Oh, that’s right…outside of the Texans, the AFC South is terrible. Ah, oh well. I am taking the Bengals here but I expect a tight game. The Bengals struggle against the run and the Jaguars have quite a nice running game. However, the Bengals are a far more complete team. Give me the Bengals.
Saints @ Packers – There’s no way that the Drew Brees led Saints can drop to 0-4, right? Well, that’s what I see happening. The Packers are going to come into this game ANGRY. And they should. Last week’s debacle was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen as a sports fan. But it’s in the past. However, the anger won’t be. The Saints have lots of issues as it is and now they get to deal with a furious team. Give me the Packers.
Redskins @ Buccaneers – I’m picking RG3? SHOCKER! The Bucs confuse me. They have solid offensive pieces, pretty good defense, and they certainly play with heart. They just can’t seem to get anything going. I don’t get them. You all know my view of the Redskins. They have my mancrush at QB but overall they have problems. But I still think they have what it takes to beat an underachieving team. Give me the Redskins.
Giants @ Eagles – Please let me be wrong. Please. Not on Dawkins’ night. Please prove me wrong.
Bears @ Cowboys – Tough game to pick. Both teams have looked very good and very bad at times this season. Honestly, this game is a toss up. Call this one a hunch. Give me the Bears.
Last week: 6-10 (Ouch)
