Sheldon Brown and Joe Banner had a meeting yesterday to discuss the current contract status Brown is under. I’m sure Brown and his agent made a pitch as to why Brown wants a new contract and I’m sure Banner listened. However, I’m also pretty sure Banner didn’t care about anything Brown or his agent had to say. The front office is taking a firm stance on Brown’s contract and they’re not going to budge.

I believe that Brown is going to have to shut up and play with the contract he has now, or he will be traded. If he can go out and prove something this year, maybe the Birds will consider something for next year, but I’m almost certain his contract will not change for this upcoming season.

If Brown were to be traded I feel the Eagles think they have enough talent at the cornerback position without him. I believe Asante and Hobbs would be the starters and the Eagles would expect youngsters Jack Ikegwuonu and Victor “Macho” Harris to jump into backup roles immediately.

Sheldon Brown, much like he said he would, has shown up for this week Eagles mini camp. Although his showing up should be to prepare for the season, his contract is the only thing he is getting asked about. Brown has restated that he is unhappy with his contract and wants to work something out.

I don’t think a distraction like this is what the Eagles need. They need to focus on making sure all the new players to the team (which there are a lot of) are ready to learn this system and be successful. The Eagles do not want to redo Brown’s contract and more than likely will not budge. At this point, I think the Birds need to shop him hard and see what they can get from him. The team doesn’t need him hanging around and causing distractions.

Sheldon Brown has come out publicly and asked that he be traded. After losing his starting position with the addition of Asante Samuel, Brown has been disgruntled with the team for quite some time. He believes he is getting underpaid and wants to return to being a starter. It is reported that the Eagles are not budging on contract talks so it looks like he could get shipped out.

I believe the Eagles may have known about this for a while and it could be the reason they’ve been looking at so many cornerback prospects recently. If a trade does go through, it will be interesting to see what the Birds can get for him.

Knowshon Moreno – Georgia – 5′ 11″ 207 pounds
2008 stats: 308 attempts, 1488 yards, 21 touchdowns

The list from top to bottom is in order of their ranking on ESPN.com. Both Brown and McCoy have visited and worked out for the Eagles. Wells is the biggest of the group while the other three are all almost identical in size. Moreno and McCoy are better pass catchers than the other two but I believe Wells and Brown are more of the bruiser type of runners.

Although I believe any of them would be a good addition, I’d prefer to see either Moreno or Brown be drafted by the Birds.

Brown ranks 5th on Mel Kiper’s list of defensive ends. Although there is consideration for Brown playing some linebacker in the NFL, I don’t see that as a major possibility if he lands in Philadelphia. I believe he would work in to the defensive end rotation and try to provide more depth to a position that already consists of some great talent. With this position being as loaded as it is in this years draft, it is hard to tell if the Eagles will even get a crack at drafting Brown. I believe that they need to address other positions in the first round; however, if he were still around in the second round he could be a great addition.

The Eagles will be holding private workouts with UConn runningback Donald Brown and Maryland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. lists Brown as his 3rd rank runningback prospect in this year’s draft. Brown stands at 5′ 10″ and weighs in at 210 pounds. In 2008 he ran the ball 367 times for 2,083 yard with 18 touchdowns. He has proven he can be a workhorse if called upon. Brown could be a nice addition to the backfield with Brian Westbrook as he can relieve some carries and is known to be a good receiver out of the backfield. I have heard no report as to whether the Eagles are working out or plan to workout any other runningbacks.

Darrius Heyward-Bey stands 6′ 1″ 210 pounds and has a solid set of hands. He falls into a group of “second-tier” receivers a notch below Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin. However, he had a great combine and shows a lot of potential. Along with Crabtree and Maclin, Heyward-Bey joins Percy Harvin and Hakeem Nicks as a group of receivers that all have first round potential. If a trade for Boldin fails to go through, Heyward-Bey could be a nice addition with the 28th overall pick.
