Today, the Eagles were visited by top offensive tackle prospect Jason Smith. Out of Baylor, Smith is projected to be one of the top three overall picks in the NFL draft. It is said to almost be concrete that the Lions will take Georgia QB Matthew Stafford with the number one overall pick. After the Lions, the Rams are the next to pick. With the loss of Orlando Pace this offseason, I would almost say it is a certainty that the Lions would take Smith if the Lions take Stafford. The Chiefs have the third overall pick in the draft and it is rumored that this is where the Eagles could possibly move up. If Smith were to still be on the board after the first two selections and the Eagles liked what they saw today, they could package their first two round picks along with something else to move up and hopefully get the starting left tackle for the next 10+ years. In all honesty, I don’t think it will happen due to the Rams need for an OT.

Although I’m a bit sick of talking about it, there are still rumors flying around about Anquan Boldin. Yesterday it was said that the Cardinals are listening to offers for Boldin again. Today it was said that the Cardinals would trade him for a first and third round pick. This is obviously something the Eagles could do since they have two first round picks. However, I’m a bit tired of getting my hopes up so I’m not going to think about it and just hope that it happens.

He has speed with his size registering a 4.43 40-yard dash time at his Pro Day event. Smith is a former wide receiver and recorded 5 interceptions in 2008 and 4 in 2007.

Smith has what many other cornerbacks have, tremendous size. He has the ability to match up on receivers who have great size like Larry Fitzgerald and Randy Moss and take away the jump ball. Smith would be a great addition for the Birds as it seems their corners are always undersized and getting dominated by big receivers.

Smith signed a one-year 1.5 million dollar deal. It is unknown what this means for Todd Heap who still remains on the Raven’s roster.

Personally, I can say that I won’t miss the guy. He had very high expectations and never lived up to them. If the Eagles end up drafting Brandon Pettigrew I hope he has a better time living up to the similar expectations he will have.

Personally, I can’t wait until he signs somewhere else so he is officially out of Philadelphia. Most mock drafts that I have seen have the Eagles taking Brandon Pettigrew with either the 21st or 28th selection. I believe he is a good player and could have an immediate impact with the Eagles.

OT Andre Smith out of Alabama was considered to be a possible number one overall selection about a month ago. Ever since then his stock has gone down, way down. Today was Alabama’s pro day in which he performed his own personal work out.

According to NFL scouts who attended, he had a terrible work out and dropped his stock even more. His 40-yard dash time was horrendous and he only bench pressed 225 pounds 19 times. Let’s not forget that Brodrick Bunkley repped that same amount 44 times at the combine before he entered the draft.

We all know that the Eagles need to pick up a young OT to fill an immediate role in their offense. It is looking like this possible number one overall pick may fall late into the first round. The question is do you take the risk on a guy who was once so highly regarded or just let him be someone elses problem. It’s hard to tell right now but it something that the Eagles will have to look into and consider.
